Hi Herb and David,
Part of the "nursing" has involved "slow changing" the trans fluid (avoiding a power flush but building up to clean(er) fluid a couple of times. I have heard that Red Line is very good for cars with this issue. I think we could take the fixes in 'steps'.

I have reasoned the whole "$2k before $2k after" thing but I fear I have influenced my subject! I "rescued" my 240 wagon from the crusher 7 years and a 130k miles ago--of course the biggest repair has been a new radiator (if it was totaled in an accident I would never get what it is worth to me). My wife is now deeply attached--to this actual CAR! So I think we might make a run at 300k.

Thanks so much for the calm and thoughtful replies we will see how this works out.
