Re: dash board bubble 850 95

I just finished this repair using the Volvo repair kit. It has the replacement cover and all the misc. hardware, clips and felt tape.

I paid about $90 bucks for the kit. This seemed like a real deal to me because my local dealer (Oak Park, IL) told me that the parts were no longer available and that I had to buy a replacement air bag ($750) to get it fixed. Don at Volvoparts.com found the parts for me; excellent service.

If you have experience replacing the light bulbs in the instrument panel (see Bay 13) it is not much more trouble taking the whole dash cover off. Volvo has a technical service bulletin with instructions; the dealer you buy the repair kit from can pull it up on a CD an print it out for you. I recommend also buying the Volvo adhesive but skip the anti-squeak varnish unless you are really compulsive. You wouldn't be driving an old Volvo if squeaks bothered you!

Change you instrument panel bulbs while you have the instrument panel cover off and be sure to have the key set to position II when you reconnect the battery or you'll have to reset the airbag idiot light.

The end result looks like new and took me about three hours.
