When every thing lines up the #1 piston is BEFORE TDC. If you are at TDC, you have cranked too far.

The mark on the crank is a pain to see. But it is there!

Belts don't stretch and they don't ever jump. Putting the belt around the cams is not easy and you could have been 1 tooth off, which will not produce an error.
