Sounds like PO bought a single spring - these things can break, but you have to work at it. The suggestion to find a pair at a junk yard is a good one. Any S70 year is a good year. The 850 sedans have the same spring.

Do yourself a favor and measure from the center of the hub to the fender opening, both side should be the same distance.
