At the bracket where the flex line transitions to hard line, is there a nipple type of connector passing through the bracket, such that the hard line has a "floating" collar that can be loosened whilst the nipple remains stationary? If so, you can first connect the nipple to the flex line on the work bench, then take it to the car and connect to the caliper first, then poke the nipple through the bracket and connect the hard line.
You may need to wire brush the undercoating off of the connections on both sides of the bracket in order to get a good look-see.
