You were in the right spot, you just stopped short. Your car doesn't have a distributor/cap or rotor, and no plug wires. Those "electronic" parts you saw were the coil packs (one per cylinder/plug). The coil packs are held in place with a 10mm bolt, remove the bolt and the coil pack will lift up with a little wiggling, and now you can remove the spark plug. I use a white marker to number the top of the coil pack before pulling them out just so I don't mix them up. Numbering is 1,2,3,4,5 starting from the cars right.
