On vacation the remote for our 855 wagon stopped functioning after being stuffed in a beach bag with a book or a ball firmly perched on the 'lock' button. Easy fix, I thought. Bought two 1220 batteries at Radio Shack, but no difference. Then I remembered a post here about 5 cycles of ignition + 1 press of any button. Well, to our amazement, it worked and our remote was back in business. We arrive home and one day reach for the second set of keys to this car, but guess what? Second remote is dead! I figure I've somehow divorced the two remotes from the CPU. To test, I repeated the 5 cycles + 1 button push and lo and behold, the second remote is alive, but the first has gone to sleep! I tried simultaneous resetting but of course whichever remote was first energized got the wake up call. How can I restore both of my remotes to work the way they used to? In case there rae several systems on 1996 850's, our keyless system has a two button remote, one for 'panic' and lock, the other to unlock. The park lights flash upon first locking. BTW, we have an 96 850 sedan and wonder if that remote entry system requires a different strategy, should we get into the same pickle. Thanks.
