We have a '12 XC70 - our first new car, and an '08 that we bought two years ago because we liked the new car so much.
The '08 is the first year of the current body and we appreciate the extra height.
We had our '08 inspected by our dealer and they found a leaking vacuum pump, and rusty rotors - the tech wrote it up as the pads did not properly contact the rotors. (The rotor swept area should be clean and shiny - rust can be glazed over.) The car had 83K on it.
The Lincoln dealer that I purchased the car from put a new vacuum pump in, replaced the front rotors, turned the rear rotors and added new pads all around because the items were safety issues. The car had new tires.
In two and one half years and 15K, all the car has needed was two oil changes and inspections.
I strongly recommend at least an '08, and take your time to find the best car you can find. We found the best deal on CARS.COM.
One thing that a friend of mine in the car business told me is that a dealer can sell the best used cars the cheapest because they put the least money into them!
