Which engine does the car have?
When quite cold, our 3.2 might start around that RPM - seems to high to me, but the dealers tech says it is normal.
To me, it is a bit louder than I prefer in the cabin when accelerating, but surprisingly when my wife drives off, it does not sound loud.
I have read that Mustangs, and some VWs have amplifiers and/or sound transmitters that provide exhaust noise in the cabin.
Road & Track tested a device that monitors engine speed and plays various engine sounds through the car's radio - It can make your car sound like a Ferrari or several other sports cars. They thought it was fun, but tiring after a while.
