Bravo! Well put!
Detroit is good at marketing, and that's it.
I am not as enamored with my 850 as you might be, but it is orders-of-magnitude beyond anything Detroit has put out--even the vaunted Corvette, or Viper. Anyone can design a car that goes fast by putting a God-awful-sized, gas-guzzling engine in it. Anyone can design a car that handles reasonably when you put it an inch from the ground, make it 10-feet wide, has zero suspension travel, and uses tires which consume half the car's track.
A car is a complex compromise for use in many environments, not just the drag strip, or even the road-race track. Great cars are not the ones which are the best at one thing; they are the ones which are a haromony of superior functions.
