I would suggest that you follow the protocol in the TME website in which they suggest starting with synthetic oil, followed by plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, then the exhaust system from the cat back and finally upgrading the ECU. This protocol at least makes sure that your engine will be protected to the max before the ECU update and the resulting increased load.
