various switchs don't light up 850 1994

Jason,
You don't have the type of toggle switches that Kele described.
On '92 -'94 850s, the entire switch has to be replaced.
Volvo soon realized how ridiculous this was and updated the switch design
to accept replacable bulbs. The newer design costs the same as your OEM.
So replace the switch with the newer design which plugs into the same harness, they are ergonomically "better" and in the future you can replace the bulb only. When I
purchased my '94 I had ALL the toggle switches replaced with the newer design. The exception is the headlamp switch which can be removed and bulbs replaced.
Just gently pop out the switches using a very small screwdriver, carefull not to scratch the
surrounding facia. After going to all this trouble and expense, slightly dim your instrument panel from say 100% brilliance to 90% and you will never have to replace a bulb again. I haven't replaced a bulb in over four years...Check the archives for instructions on replacing the gear select bulb, much has been written on this.
