"If we had a car to fight the above 3 vehicles we would be selling at least another 10 cars per month."
You mean another 10 SUVs a month. To me it doesn't really matter if it says Jeep, Lexus, BMW or Volvo on it, it's still a SUV, and it's still blocking my view of the road. Volvo is uniquely positioned in the automobile industry. They could have tried to develop a product that might make all the lemmings re-think their irrational desire to buy SUVs. Instead Volvo decided to play to play it safe--the if you can can't beat 'em, join 'em strategy. I can understand where you're coming from in terms of trying to sell vehicles in today's market. Still, it's disappointing, and frankly, I think it will tarnish Volvo's image (if it wasn't blantantly obvious that they are owned by Ford before, it is now).
