Passed on this one, still looking 850 1995

The 95 855t with 77k that I was close to buying will have to wait for someone else. Even with a clean Carfax report, one local owner and a two page long service report from the originating dealership several things were bugging me.

I had it inspected by the local Volvo independent (FREE!) and he turned up:

Worn out upper engine mount bushing
Leaking oil pan drain plug
Rear liftgate panel mounts broken
Evidence of salt/sand underneath the car even though it's a local "Southern" car. (I noticed the white fluffy oxidation on the valve cover and turbo sheilds also.
Leaking hose from the IC to the intake, some oil on the top hose also
Low refrigerant in the A/C system. Using a probe he detected refrigerant coming out of the vents. Failing evaporator.

Oh yea, not to mention old oil, a Wix (K-mart brand?) oil filter and one tire that had been replaced and didn't match. That wheel was pretty scabby too.

Original asking price was $12,900, settled on $11,400 then I found out how much an evaporator replacement would cost. $1300.00 NEXT please!

Some of the above items I was ok with repairing myself but not the evap.

What's the word on the evaporator? Are all 850's subject to this? On a side note, the staff of Swedish Solutions were all driving 200, 700 and 900 series cars but the only models I saw on their lifts were 850's and a V70. Hmmm.

Still looking in Memphis,
Erwin

Oh, in case this car turns up anywhere else, it's green/tan VIN YV1LW5712S2160051
