Juan - As one of the other posts said, Europeans do not put as much emphasis on model years as Americans do. They never purchased new cars every year as once was popular here.
I have a 1988 740 wagon that a technician once told me has a 240 engine. I also got a loaner two years or more ago that was a stripped down AWD model. I think that Volvo made crossover models often.
I've seen evidence in this site that many Volvo owners value their cars more for their performance and condition more than their model designation and year of manufacture.
I just purchased a 1995 sedan with 49,000 miles, for the price, it is a real cream puff.
