98 850 AWD V70-XC70

We have a 94 850 that we bought used at 55k, ran a little ragged for
25k but seems now to be broken-in at 128k. No real issues since 100k.
But now my wonderful wife thinks she wants AWD (she rides in my 95
Subaru Legacy when its very snowy). We both prefer the 850 look-and-
feel to the XC, so I'm looking for feedback on the 98 AWD 850. Was it
a one year wonder or something to be avoided? Feedback about specific
problems vis-a-vis the AWD and or other issues with its reliability
would be appreciated. Is the 98 a ford Volvo? Am I just asking for a
headache when the 94 has just started to sing and the Subi
practically runs for free?
