If they're E-codes, the lenses will have an E in a circle on them.
I recommend the Hella MicroDE foglights; best halogen foglight in my opinion. You can see it's absolutely perfect fog pattern demonstrated at http://www.hella.com/produktion/HellaPortal/WebSite/Internet_en/ProductsServices/ForDriversAccessories/LightTunnel/LightTunnel.jsp Click on the "fog" link. You can also check out their other foglights using the "Light Tunnel" feature. This is the best of the Hella foglights.
They are 2" round projector style, so if you don't already have an airdam opening, it's easily created with a 2-1/4in hole saw mounted in a cordless drill. You'll probably have to create mounting points. I got mine at Susquehanna Motor Sports ( http://catalog.com/susq/hella/fog.htm#MicroDE ).
Your car is probably prewired for foglights (look inside one of the fenders for unused gray, two-terminal connectors with an orange-and-green striped wire inside the sheath. You can use buy the oem foglight switch for $20 from Volvo, and use n0v8or's wiring diagram to gain independent use of the foglights and at the same time avoid the hassle of dealing with the 850's hard-to-reach relay bay.
Erlend Hagen installed these in his 850 in November or December and left detailed instructions on how he installed them and used factory wiring. Search the archive, or find a post here by Erlend and email him for the details.
