I have a 1993 850 that did the same thing. Since I was afraid something major was going on, I had it towed to my mechanic and he said that in Winter they sometimes flood if you run it for a couple of minutes and then shut it off again. I guess in cold weather a lot of fuel gets sent to the engine at start up and if you don't burn that off for a few minutes, it floods.
He told me to just keep trying and it will start eventually. Fortunately, he didn't charge me for the advice!! I DID have to pay for the tow, tho.
Hope this helps.
