Before you start ripping things apart, try the "Texas Tune up" Find a good long stretch of road, select 1st gear, and run it for 10-15 minutes at 5500 rpm. This exersizes the valves/guides/lifters and often has positive effects. Had a 98 V-70 doing the same as yours. Did the oil pan and o-rings. Improved but not corected. Did the tune, no more noise. Just watch the temp guage.
