Ashtray stuck closed V70-XC70 1998

Yes, mine "sticks" closed when either there's something in that tray under the ashrtray, or some stuff in the ashtray (like most Volvo owners I don't smoke and use it as another cubbyhole for change and car wash tickets) manages shift and to jam it closed. Gentle manipulation, maybe probing with a strip of thin stiff cardboard or a putty knife?
