I use "50% worn" as the point to change the pads. How do I know what thickess corresponds to 50%? I buy a replacement set of pads within a few months of delivery; I know I will eventually use them. These serve as a guide.
I rotate the tires and inspect the pads every 7500 miles. Volvo front pads usually reach 50% between 15K and 22K miles. Rear pads generally last longer.
