I guess that's really what I meant- If you're going to spend $3K on a motor upgrade why not do it right? And yes $3K might be cheap for a well done T5 swap, and probably out of the question anyway as the trannys may not swap (I'm thinking that's the biggest stumbling block)

Despite all the input you folks have generously posted, I can't do the automatic. I am terribly stubborn like that. I'd rather go slow.

Test drive will be Friday. It's got 16" Volvo wheels already, so maybe I'll like the handling. We'll see.

ps resale on any Volvo manny tranny is pathetically poor- some cases it looks like $3-4K in the market. Just the thing for a cheap bastard like me...
