I sold my 1998 V70 to my brother but not before I had trouble with the turn signal lights burning out constantly (I believe that was a recall issue and they were fixed)and the CD player. This was the most frustrating as I went through two - both replaced under warranty. The CD would get stuck and not come out. The entire unit had to go both times and a new one was put in. The battery went the day after I sold it (at 3 1/2 yrs. old) -fortunately, it was sitting in the driveway so we were able to take another car, get a new one and put it in at home. My brother has had a few problems not entirely of Volvo's making - a lawn service at his home shot a rock through the rear window and shattered it. The annoying thing about that was between Volvo NA and the dealer they couldn't agree on whether a replacement was available in NA or in Sweden. It took a month to get one and when you are driving around three kids (two of whom are 6 months old) in New Hampshire this is not a great situtation. He also had a rotor rust away (I believe this was it) causing the steering to shudder - this was replaced under warranty in Canada since the NH dealer didn't find the problem.) I have found that there are many fixable problems but the overall safety record of the car makes driving it worthwhile.
