Your comment about safety made me remember a funny situation. Some time after I had this problem, and corrected it, a friend of mine was following behind me in his car and we had TalkAbout Radios for communication on a trip to the Florida Keys. He called me on the radio and said, "Hey, there's smoke coming from your tail light." Well, I freaked out! He was only joking, but it was believable from my "perspective". He thought it was funny; it took me a while to calm down.
