Our 95 had the same tranny problems. Replaced PNP switch. I think a lot
of trannys have been replaced when a new PNP switch would have done the
job. There was a thread here a while ago where even the dealer wnated to
replace tranny but the guy's after-market extended warranty wnated them to
first try the PNP switch (which fixed it).
Our 95's AC is gone, too. Refrigerant has leaked out (year 7 of
ownership). I plan to just charge it every couple years. I also have
a 98 S70 and the AC on that car won't work when external temp is over 90 degrees (it needs a recharge, too).
By the way, total repairs speant on our 95 are $440 (not counting up
comming AC issues). This does not include normal maintenance. Compared
to taxes, registration, tires, fuel, and depreciation, repairs comes in
as the lowest part of vehicle ownership costs for this car (ditto for
my 98 S70).
