acceleration w/ auto trans? 850 1996

I've got an automatic 850 96 n/a, and when I need to merge into an L.A. Freeway, I change the driving mode to Sport with a push of a button--most times it's on there--and I slam my foot on the gas pedal. It ain't turbo boost, but it allows me to merge safely into the fast lanes. I'm guessing it takes me 7 to 8 sec to get to 60mph.

* I'm thinking of upgrading my steel wheels to alloys. I hear that's suppose to give you faster accelaration, in comparison to heavy steel wheels, and shorter breaking distance, although the brakes in the 850 are more than ample.
