Extremely dirty engine compartment = loss of performance? 850 1995

No, it shouldn't really matter.

The question, however, is why not clean it up? Spend some time with a good engine clean and make her pretty again.

It makes me crazy when I see people with such nice cars not take care of them.
A buddy of mine has a Dodge Ram he prizes that he washes every weekend. The thing looks great on the outside. He asked me to check the oil at a gas station the other day, engine compartment was filthy. I find it shameful.

BTW, if you spray any water on top of the engine, be careful not to let any water get down into the spark plug holes. If it does, blow it out with some shop air, or soak it up with a paper towel.
