Retractable antenna S70 1998

Recently, my antenna has stopped extending to its highest position, only going as far as the first joint. This has greatly reduced my radio reception so I'd really like to get this fixed soon.

I've taken a look at Bay 13 and read about replacing the mast. Is this my solution or is there a quick trick that may do the job? Maybe it only needs to be lubricated? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
