CLEARING CODES IN MY 94 850 850 1994

I have sometimes had trouble claring codes in my 94 turbo. After reading codes, you must re-read the first one, press button for 6 secs, wait for light, press again for 6 secs, at this point often the ECC starts to send out code information again. Eventually after several tries, it will work, but not sure why ... anyone ??

Removing the battery or ECU is a surefire way to clear codes, though.
