if u stick with oem springs, bilstein hd should be fine.
ohlins...long story here...they are one of the best suspension manufacturers...many race cars use them, including volvo's own btcc race cars. for good priced fully adjustable, give leda suspensiosn a call (in uk). ohlins did make...no, volvo offered a set of ohlins adjustable suspension as a factory installed option (US$1600) or a there-after accessory. there are eight settings front and back. it also came with remote oil reserviors that attach nicely to the volvo oem strut brace. i called around and no one seems to know much about them. road and track tested this option in one of their sport sedan tests...but they just said it was a trick setup...nothing that put the rubber better on the road (guess u'd still have trouble harnessing 236 hp on front wheels). anyway...called naake suspension up near sacramento in roseville (i think). they have direct connections with ohlins in sweden. ohlins sends them techs to help em out and give seminars. anyway...talked to naake person, they called ohlins...ohlins replied, "we don't currently make anything for volvo." apparently, volvo probably bought the parts from ohlins and put them together...probably in conjunction with twr (of tom walkinshaw) and the company he runs in conjunction with volvo...just to celebrate volvo's 1998 btcc win. anyway..as it turns out, the softest setting seems to be harder than bilsteins hd...so imagine how hard it is adjusted to the hardest. ouch.
