Consumer Reports says "avoid" the SVC70, particularly the AWD versions. However....I had enough trouble with mine that I bought the extended warranty. Once the early problems were fixed, the recalls completed and the extended warranty kicked in, the car has been pretty good. Buying the warranty has been a financial loser for me.
I do like the exterior styling of the 850 better, but the SVC70 has a redesigned dash and the window switches relocated from the console under the cupholder to the door where it's impossible to spill your drink into. They also may (or may not) have gotten a handle on the evaporator problem by the 70s. 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other. You can find a SV70 T5 with a 5-speed, all USA 850 turbos are automatics, that would be (and was) enough for me to favor the 70 series.
I'd still avoid the AWD versions.
