I'd leave it open about 5mm-1cm, more than a crack. I don't know about the warranty. "Adjustments" are covered only for the first year, a fact I discovered when my sunroof needed adjusting to close after the first year.

A cheap test would be to leave a dry towel on the door panel when it rains. My driver's seat also got wet when it happened.

Or try driving through an automatic car wash, which might approximate what happens in a rainstorm.
