Wiper problems 850 1996

Same problem here (97 854R), and it's a recent happening. The driver's side wiper lifts off the windshield when it gets about eye-level.

The problem first manifested as "chattering" wipers. I replaced the wipers, thinking the blades were old and hard. No help. I swapped them side-to-side, and the problem stays on the driver's side.

Bending the wiper arm towards the windshield did not help me. I got somewhat better action (temporarily) by tightening the retaining nut as much as I could, but the problem appears to be the angle of the entire wiper assembly. It's a bit loose, whereas the passenger's side will not wiggle at all. I don't see an easy way to get to the wiper motor assembly to verify if it is loose on its mounts.

My car still has some warranty left, so I may take this to the dealer. If it's a common problem (and it seems to be!) they should fix it for free, regardless of warranty status. This is, after all, a SAFETY issue.
