Thanks, Ron and Moregolf, for taking the high road.

Too often, on this board, I see responses to A/C questions, telling people to "repair" their A/C by buying those stupid little cans of 134a.

It is against the law to intentionally vent 134a and, as far as I am concerned, adding refrigerant to a system which has just lost its charge without first determining the source of the loss, is intentionally venting refrigerant.

To anyone out there with a loss-of-charge problem, fix the problem first.
