3k-5k depends on your driving habits and commute. if you do a lot of stop and go, then go with 3k. i would switch to synthetic. your engine will be a lot happier running on synthetic, then you could extend oil change to 5k.
on oil filters, whatever you do, do not use fram !!! use good ones like purolators. for a wrench, you can pick up the kind that looks like a cap and works with a rachet wrench. they are available everywhere and i find them easiest to use on my 854.
while you're at it, you might want to check and replace your oil plug gasket. they run for about $1 or so. get the aluminum kind. the copper variety is too hard and might eventually damage the drain. parts?? try volvoparts.com
