I purchased my 1995 850 turbo 2 years ago and I found it a very reliable car. Yes the evaporator needs to be fixed, which costs around $750 cdn. I do the minor work for myself, changing spurk plugs, oil etc. For the past 56000kms the maintanence cost for this car has been less than for any new car out there.
If you want to avoid expensive maintenance costs never ever by a FORD and service your Volvo at a reliable Volvo dealer. I have one and it cost me 10 times as much to maintain as the Volvo.
