That's the box the government puts in cars to tell how fast you are driving.
Not really. The modules inside are the ECU and TCU. The engine control unit controls turbo boost, fuel mapping, etc, and the transmission control unit controls shift points, monitors engine load, etc. The TCU can affect boost at the instant just before the transmission shifts.
Back to the original statement: The ECU or TCU provides information on maximum speed to the service personnel, I believe, but the information must be retrieved with a special tool. I have been told this by±a service advisor, but it was while my car was under warranty, so I have no idea whether or not he was fibbing.
