I got a pair of Sylvania Silvervision for $20/each at Autozone last night and installed them. The color temp is 4000k and supposed to be 30% brighter than standard halogens. The color is definitely whiter and not blue. I can't really say that it was much brighter.

I'll see tonight when I drive home and update the board.

I sure hope I don't have to replace the bulb every 6 months!!!

Maybe you're touching the bulb glass when you install them; apparently the oils on your hands will cause the bulbs to burn out prematurely. My original bulbs have lasted 125,000 miles so far and I'm replacing them in the hopes to improve night vision.
