What give Volvo the 'Edge' these days?

Dunno. In the Real World, and compared with cars in the same weight and or price class, Volvo's record doesn't look too shabby to me.

I'd like it if they screwed the cars together better, too. But as the thread on the Big Benz over in "Opinions" points out, Mercedes-Benz's engineers can do an even better job of burying their evaporators, and they leak just like Volvo's.

BTW, the "stylized" FWD Volvos have a significantly better safety record than the old RWD Bricks according to the IIHS charts.

I expect they'll sell a few boatloads of XC90s, even though none of them will be to me. So I doubt they need your or my marketing expertise!

Dunno how many I-5s are gonna make it to 500,000 miles, even on synthetic...
