There is a button that disengages the cruise control when it senses the brake pedal being applied, similar to the stoplight switch. Check to see if it is out of adjustment. Maybe when you engage your cruise control, the sensor thinks the brakes are applied and disengages it. As far as i remember, you can easily slide the sensor closer/further from the brake pedal.
