You did it correctly. I also experienced the same thing, and did it the second time in about 10K miles. The results were better. I'm guessing that there was some residual junk left in it the first time. I believe the dealer will add some 'cleaner', run it for some 15 minutes or so, then do a flush. I will do it again in the Spring and this time will use Amsoil for the final one.
