Dealer maintenance? Not if I can help it. S70 2000

Ted - One thing about doing your own service is that you know how qualified the technician is.

That said, your car should have its codes checked once and a while, as well as checked for recalls and service bulletins, etc.

You might want to get a printout of the items that your dealer's technicians are supposed to check and service at different intervals.

10k items like - check battery electrolyte level and battery clamps, check brake hoses, inspect and adjust parking brake, measure brake pads, check tires for uneven wear and punctures, check steering linkage, lubricate link arm stops, inspect front and rear suspension, check transmission shift control, inspect and check drive shaft joints - check for wear/play, inspect exhaust system, lubricate power antenna, door/hood hinges, check heater/AC system performance, etc. need to be attended to also.

If you are not kidding about checking your serpentine belt yet, I'll say a little prayer for your car.

The Haynes manual does a pretty good job of spelling out a decent maintenance program.
