Iroll;
My '98 just went over 66K. Unlike what another post said, I wouldn't be so particular about using OEM, esp thermostat. Plenty of posts on this site and my recent experience with a broken Volvo thermostat lead me to believe you might as well spend $6 at NAPA instead of getting pinched for an OEM.
As far as the serpentine goes, I changed mine at 60K not too long ago. Couldn't tell it from the new one.
Finally, you are right on the money about taking the car in. Nobody is going to "inspect" your car like you would. They are not the ones who will be stranded if they miss something, you are! If you can't verify something was done (like an inspection) then what's making them do it?
Good luck;
Matt
