Cigarette Lighter in Center Console pushed through V70-XC70 1998

I think that it should be pretty easy to lift the console, I had no trouble doing mine in our '95 850 to change the shift indicator light.

In my car, the cigarette lighter is surrounded by a piece of clear greenish plastic that lights up at night. This plastic ring was broken in my car, so I glued it. I think that you should check with your parts man to see what parts you might need to effect repair. You might want to pick up spare bulbs for the lighter and shift indicator, and change them when you get the console out.

In my car, there is a plate inside the console that hides two screws that hold the rear of the console in place. The front fastners were under the change holder, it just pulled out. You also need to remove the piece that fits under the emergency brake lever and pull the lever up. This is handy, because you need to move the shift lever to D or some better location, it is in the way when it is in P. You might need to unplug some wires to lift the console - the lighter, I think!

I did not remove the console, I just had my wife hold the rear up enough to do the work.

Have some paper towels and a cleaner on hand, I found a lot of dirt, sticky stuff, and ball-point pen ink under the console!

Perhaps your car is the same.
