You're experiencing a combo of modern day electronics (fly by wire), trans shift delay (done on purpose by Volvo for some odd reason) and yes, turbo lag too.
I know exactly what you mean and it's worse than older turbo Volvos with ATs but that's how Volvos engineers designed it.
Can't "chip it" either but if IPD makes an improved HP ECU for it, maybe that'd help?
