Based on your posts, I highly suggest you get some reading material like a Haynes manual before you do anything else. This could be an accident waiting to happen if you don't do some research and it seems like this is the first time you are doing this. Another option is to take it to a pro and watch what he is doing for next time.
If you are draining back into the can, you could be looking at some costly repairs, not to mention the injury that could result from tapping into the wrong side.
