A technician with the right equipment can test the spark plug wires.

In my experience, unless you are unlucky, they should be looked at hard when you get your 90,000 mile service. I keep the longest old wire in the car as a spare.

If you are handy, you can wash them in soap and water. Someone mentioned a chap who puts them in the dishwasher! I have cleaned 740 wires with WD 40 and a rag.

Clean the distributor cap inside and out as well.
