A/C Question 850 1997

The ideal procedure is to have an A/C shop evacuate and recharge with the prescribed amount of R134. If the system is overcharged (why would it be?), a low pressure gauge may not be sufficient to diagnose. But DIY recharging is also possible and satisfactory in most cases.

1. Have you actually added any freon yet?

2. You ONLY measure the system low pressure when it is RUNNING at steady state (on for at least several minutes), with an outside temperature high enough to sustain steady state (probably >75F).

3. If the system is cycling on/off, it is very likely caused by (1)low freon, or (2) low temperature limit. Make sure that your recirc is set to "fresh", and ECC (if equipped) is not causing the cycling.

My bet would be that your freon is low.
