new d.i.y.'er 850

greetings.

i've got a '94 850 wagon with 137K i'm thinking about working on. it's my third volvo, but i've always trusted shops to do everything, which gets the job done expensively. after reading this site and checking out bay 13, it seems like there are quite a few things i could do myself (i can follow instructions well). it's just a little scary taking the first step, since life and limb depends on doing the work right.

i'm considering trying the following: replacing right side engine mount, replacing rotor/distributor cap, perhaps the water pump and perhaps the timing belt. are any of these too much for a rookie to tackle? will i need any special tools i might not have in my pretty-well-stocked toolbox? and what's the best way for me to get good parts? the dealer?

thanks for the advice!
