It was the first year of that model and like most new models (ANY make), the '99 S80s were the most problematic of all S80s. Those who bought them new (and many now used) have had many problems with them and once the warranty is up, those repairs can get very costly. Then there's the "hassle factor". Most people don't enjoy needing to make many trips to dealers to get codes read, SW downloaded, suspension parts replaced, etc, etc. It's maybe OK if you live close to a dealer but if you're driving 2+ hours each way, it'll get old real fast.
Otherwise, when everything's functioning as it should the cars do drive nicely, no doubt
